We rebuilt zoom and cursor animation from scratch

TL;DR - We completely rebuilt how auto zoom and cursor animation work. Zoom transitions are smoother and more accurate. The cursor now follows natural paths with motion blur instead of snapping between points. If you tried these features before, they’re a different experience now.

What changed

Tight Studio has had auto zoom and cursor animation since launch. They worked, but they weren’t great. Zoom transitions could feel robotic - zooming in at the wrong moment or holding too long. The cursor smoothing was basic, removing jitter but not doing much else. It was a good start, but it didn’t match the level of polish we wanted.

We spent the last several weeks rebuilding both systems. Here’s what’s different.

Auto zoom that actually gets it right

The old auto zoom would sometimes zoom into dead space, or miss the moment you clicked an important button. The new version is significantly smarter.

It highlights exactly what matters, right when it matters. The timing is tighter - it zooms in when you’re doing something, not a beat too late. And it zooms back out at natural break points instead of holding awkwardly.

We also gave the two animation styles their own distinct personalities:

  • Snappy - Quick, punchy transitions. The camera moves decisively.
  • Smooth - Slower transitions with motion blur that makes camera movement feel cinematic.

A completely new cursor

The old cursor animation smoothed out jitter, but that was about it. The new version is a complete rebuild.

Your cursor now glides between points of interest with smooth acceleration and deceleration. It has a subtle motion blur trail that gives it weight, and it leans slightly in the direction of movement. The result is a cursor that looks intentional - like a professionally edited product video.

Here’s the difference compared to a standard screen recorder:

The combination matters

These two upgrades work together in ways that aren’t obvious until you see it. The camera zooms in as you focus on a detail, and the cursor arrives at exactly the right spot with a smooth, purposeful motion. No jarring jumps, no wasted movement.

Viewers’ eyes follow the cursor. When it moves smoothly and the camera follows intelligently, people understand what you’re showing them faster and watch longer.

Try it

If you haven’t used Tight Studio in a while, make a recording and compare it to what you were getting before. The difference is immediately obvious.

If you’re new, download Tight Studio - both features are included on every plan, including Free.
